Chillbuilder RJAS

Iceberg Sculptor

Freeze/Assembly Type
Original Media: The Chaos Zone
(first appeared in 2022)
Story
Chillbuilder is one of the four “Seekers of Strength” written into existence by Mega Beedrill, meant to represent power over ice. He was designed after the legendary golem Pokémon Regice, with Chillbuilder’s larger and more durable body compared to Regice (or most ice-type Pokémon, for that matter) symbolizing the power Mega Beedrill held.
While Mega Beedrill wanted Chillbuilder to serve as a looming threat deep underground, Chillbuilder could not be further from that. Even in his time under Mega Beedrill’s control, he was a gentle and curious soul who wished to explore the world outside the Frigid Depths he was assigned to patrol, communicated when he could with his fellow Seekers, and even gave those he was meant to oppose a chance to proceed without a fight when he learned there was no animosity between them.
Abilities
Named Abilities
Ice Block
Chillbuilder forms a large block of ice and hurls it at an opponent, dealing heavy damage.

Freeze/Impact Type
Other Powers
- Chillbuilder has innate ice powers that allow him to build things out of ice. While the size of these structures could potentially be entire castles, he’s still largely limited by what ice is (so he can’t build things that need, say, string or rope).
- Chillbuilder can communicate from locations he knows by summoning a whirl of icy wind in his hand; a similar whirl of ice will appear wherever he thinks to send it to, and it’s through this whirl he can talk to others, and by talking to it, others can communicate from a distance. The whirl can be destroyed about as easily as a phone can, though, and Chillbuilder can’t summon a whirl based on who he wishes to talk to; it has to be where he’s communicating to (so if his friend is somewhere he doesn’t know, he can’t communicate with them with the whirl).
Voice
General Description
Adult; only moderately deep; his default speaking voice is soft and calm, and even when stern, he still has a softness to his voice
Behind the Scenes
All of the Seekers of Strength were loosely inspired by an idea from an earlier plotline written by MMRPG user ch4s3man, where certain characters were fused together to create new beings; Chillbuilder was mainly inspired one of the titular creatures of the Pokémon series, Regice.
Chillbuilder was inspired by the loose knowledge I had of competitive Pokémon games, namely regarding Regice: In newer games (specifically around the late 2010s-early 2020s, when I first wrote the Seekers of Strength), Ice is considered one of the worst “types” for a Pokémon to be, as being Ice-type means that Pokémon is weak to many other types, and doesn’t resist any type of attack besides Ice-type attacks themselves; Ice-type in competitive Pokémon is generally most powerful when Pokémon who aren’t actually Ice-type use Ice-type attacks. While there are powerful ice-types in newer Pokémon, their benefits seem to usually come from being powerful enough to defeat the opponent before the opponent lands a hit on them. Some Pokémon, however, were designed to have high durability despite the innate disadvantage Ice-type gives to their ability to defend themselves, and so many of the least popular Ice-type Pokémon are those designed to be bulky.
In the above case, Regice was a particular Pokémon who stood out to me; Regice is what they call a “Legendary Pokémon”, which often means they are very rare and powerful in the game’s story. The actual gameplay doesn’t reflect this, however, and so there are some Pokémon games where, when it comes to competitive Pokémon battles, Regice is considered an awful Pokémon to choose for your team. Chillbuilder was built to counter this idea, by taking the design of Regice and amplifying its size, power, and durability.
Chillbuilder was one of the first Seekers I designed, before I even had the idea of the Seekers and Mega Beedrill’s plan in mind. A lot of the thought I put into his powers was done with the image of a spectacular video game fight in my head, like he’d be so big he’d take up the entire screen and you’d have to fight him from the foreground. Due to me deciding he would be the last Seeker encountered, things panned out quite differently, as I ended up developing the Seekers to be much more sympathetic, to the point where by the time the “heroes” met Chillbuilder, neither the heroes nor Chillbuilder had any desire to fight each other. To date, Chillbuilder’s involvement has been rather small, especially combat-wise, and I hope to show more of both his power and his personality in the future.
