Story
One of two “Incept Chasers” built by Dr. Doppler while he was under the control of the Sigma Virus. When Limited was first created, Schmitt was tasked with securing specimens, and even backstabbed the other Incept Chaser just to keep info secret. Ironically, after a rough battle, his body was claimed by the Limited, and transformed into another entity for its own goals.
Through unknown means, Schmitt’s original mind and body were re-acquired, and although he was briefly used as a tool for the plans of Team Mecha, Schmitt was freed from their control rather quickly, after which he went back to making the best use he could out of his skills as a nimble assassin, this time as a wandering vigilante.
Eventually, after an encounter with the rough-housing Battleship Re-Class where she swore to return, Schmitt decided he wasn’t taking any chances, and patrolled the area until Re-Class returned, stopping her from unleashing a second attack so easily, and trying to persuade her to take another choice in life.
The situation didn’t sort itself out as swiftly as Schmitt would’ve hoped; his lack of interaction with peers meant he didn’t know as much as he hoped he did, and ultimately what got both him and Re-Class to think their lives over was taking the time to talk with someone else: Schmitt’s friend Dark Elf.
While Schmitt still doesn’t have a single place he ties himself to, he does talk to his friends more often (including frequently meeting up with Re-Class), being less of a lone vigilante than before. He does have ideals that he’ll stand up for, however, such as protesting figures of power misusing such power (which he actually avoids handling in his old-fashioned violent ways, aware how easily the situation could be turned against him).

Schmitt performs a karate chop with his arm, surrounding it with sharp plasma. This lets him slice through small or frail objects, and deal damage to opponents even if they are larger.

Behind the Scenes
Schmitt was one of six characters I introduced into Chaos Zone as part of a storyline with Team Mecha (my main villain characters at the time) having effectively brainwashed several characters as a means of causing both mayhem and psychological distress, as most characters under their control were closely affiliated with other characters I had introduced by then; Schmitt was a bit unique in this regard, as not only did he have his history with Dr. Doppler for me to touch on, but he was also a source of exploring sort of “past demons” of a character someone else was writing, iX (the character who was made from Schmitt’s body). As with all characters I introduced this way, the idea of this psychological warfare was undone by how little I actually managed to do with it; Schmitt’s case was worse than most, as I don’t think Dr. Doppler was even heavily involved in the fight against him.
Schmitt ended up in a sort of limbo in my writing after this point; I had loosely explored the idea that he resented his body being taken and re-shaped into iX, but this never became a central conflict, and he effectively let it go off-screen. Thus, I was left with someone in the main cast whose identity wasn’t really clear (not helped by him often being overshadowed by my other characters), and for a while I was awaiting a good opportunity to give him an experience he could actually learn and develop from.
This is where Battleship Re-Class came into the picture; as I was deciding how to introduce her into my writing, I felt that it would simultaneously serve as a good opportunity to give Schmitt more depth as a character, putting him in a scenario where he could speak for himself. It was through this piece of writing that I found an identity for Schmitt, and I’ve been very satisfied with him since then.
